This chart displays all 140 of the named colors. You'll find it handy to compare colors side by side (compare background and font colors for contrast, etc.). Just pass your cursor over the color's name or number and the page's background will change to that color. Click on the name or number and the page will reload with a white background.
I had nothing to do with choosing these names, so don't blame me! And yes, cyan and aqua are the exact same color, as are fuchsia and magenta. Why? I have no clue. Your guess is as good as mine.
Another thing....When using the colors' names make sure you pay close attention to the spelling....If you use 'grey' instead of 'gray' you'll end up with a puke green. But 'lightgrey' has to be spelled with the 'e'. Go figure.
Now, a word about browsers. As with the rest of this site, this page is optimized for use with Internet Explorer and the results vary on other browsers. For instance, on Netscape be prepared for a bit of a light show as whenever you pass your cursor over a color's name you'll experience a bit of a strobe effect. Not too annoying, but there nonetheless. In Opera the background color will not change and 13 of the colors aren't even recognized. The page is pretty worthless viewed in this browser, other than to see which colors are actually usable.
